Water – The Element of Life
Water is the greatest and most important substance on this planet. Believe it or not, some people struggle to consume enough water every day. Why is that? Is it due to the large amounts of advertisements for various soft drinks, juices, and alcoholic beverages? Or is it due to the lack of knowledge of how significant water is to our everyday health. By the end of this article, you will understand all of the different benefits of water and why you should never be thirsty.
Our bodies are composed of about 60% water. On a daily basis, we need to consume a portion of water that will allow our body to have a fluid balance; this includes transporting nutrients in our body, as well as helping with the digestion of food and regulating our body’s temperature. When we satisfy our body’s demand for water, we will tend to feel full, which can help us to not exceed our daily caloric needs. Of course, this is just an additional benefit in how water can help us lose weight.
Water has a wealth of benefits for our body that we sometimes forget. First, let’s talk about how it benefits our skin. Our body excretes certain toxins which cause inflammation in the skin, which then leads to clogged pores and eventually the onset of acne. Having sufficient water in your system allows the body to flush out these toxins from the skin, reducing the risk of having a face full of pimples.
Muscle ammunition and Fatigue Blaster
Have you ever wondered why we drink water when we work-out? Well, for starters, when we engage in physical activity, our bodies will sweat, releasing water through the skin in order to cool the body and prevent us from overheating. Furthermore, our muscles require a significant amount of water to function properly; from the transfer of muscle proteins, to the effectiveness of the muscle contractions, everything is dependent on water. Research has proven that if you are not adequately hydrated and wait till you are thirsty to drink water, your body has already decreased its performance by as much as 10%. The severity of this loss in athletic performance will only increase the more dehydrated you become. Replenishing the body of water after your work-out is just as important. If not properly hydrated after intense exercise, our muscles will not be able to repair themselves and in turn, we will not see muscle growth. Another reason to ensure hydration and consume more water is that it will help wake you up! A major reason why people are always tired is due to dehydration. With the help of water, we can help get rid of that tired eye syndrome by fixing the problem at the source, instead of downing another cup of joe just to help you stay awake.
