Green Tea: What Are The Benefits?
In a previous artcle I’ve already written shortly about green tea, but I want to go more in-depth on this subject. Green tea is popular worldwide and has its origins in China. Green tea has a lot of health benefits and it’s loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that have great effects on our bodies. In this article I will tell you about a couple of these benefits.
Green tea contains a lot of bioactive compounds. These compounds have great health benefits. To name a couple: flavonoids and catechins, which are very powerful antioxidants. These substances can protect your cells from any damage and fight diseases. Epigallocatechin Gallate, better known as EGCG, is something you must have heard of. It simply is a very powerful antioxidant, which has been studied for years. EGCG treats various deseases such as cancer, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and liver disease. EGCG also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Green tea could help make you smarter in a sense. Green tea contains caffeine, which is a stimulant. It’s not as effective as coffee, cause that contains a lot more caffeine. But it’s enough to have an effect on your brains. Caffeine blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter in our brains called Adenosine. By blocking this your brains can fire of more neurons.
L-theanine is one of the many amino acids in green tea. This amino acid is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. Ths can increase the activity of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which will have anti-anxiety effects.
You might have noticed that some people drink a lot more green tea when they’re trying to burn off fat. This is cause green tea increases your metabolic rate. Green tea is also added as an ingredient in many fat burners on the market, along with caffeine. A lot of studies have been conducted, and one of them found the fat oxidation was increased by 17% when using green tea.
